Headington Det raises £3573.52

Army cadets from Headington Detachment may have celebrated the end of a great year a few weeks earlier, but that wasn't to stop them getting involved in the community right up to the end of 2011. On the 21st to 23rd of December, just before Christmas, fifteen cadets enthusiastically volunteered their time to pack customers' bags in the Sainsbury's store at Heyford Hill. Members of the public were overwhelmingly generous, and donated a massive £3573.52 to our collection buckets. Also donated were 1 Franc, 1 Mark, $1.25 and a Brussels sprout.
Of this total, we are donating £2500 to the Rifles charity ‘Care for Casualties’, to support wounded Riflemen and their families. A further £350 will go to the Army Cadet Force League, which helps disadvantaged young people across the county get involved in cadet activities they might otherwise not afford. The remainder will be spent on equipment for local detachments, where around 40 young people parade twice a week.
The event was about more than just raising money. Our cadets, who are aged 12-17, gained a lot from the experience and it was fantastic for their confidence. A big thank you to all involved.
